Venous insufficiency

What is a varicose vein?

A varicose vein is an abnormal dilation of a vein caused by insufficiency of the venous system. The venous system is responsible for returning blood from the extremities to the heart. When the valve system of the veins no longer works, as in peripheral venous insufficiency, the blood flows back down to the feet. This can cause multiple inconveniences including pain, a feeling of heaviness, swelling, varicose veins and even ulcers in the lower limbs. The most important risk factors for venous insufficiency include heredity, female gender, pregnancy, advanced age, weight and prolonged standing and sitting.

Although the majority of these factors cannot be modified, we can still intervene on certain components to reduce the risk of disease progression.

Why treat them?

  • Relief of symptoms

  • Decrease progression of venous disease
  • Aesthetic aim
  • Reduced risk of complications related to varicose veins

Our process

For any new patient, the first appointment consists of a complete medical evaluation with ultrasound of your legs. This allows us to target the problem and develop a personalized treatment plan . The following appointments will be dedicated to sclerotherapy treatments.

1. Medical assessment appointment

Includes a medical questionnaire, Doppler ultrasound and a personalized treatment plan

2. Initial treatment appointment

Surface treatment or under ultrasound according to the initial assessment of the physician

3. Follow-up appointment

Follow-up appointments with treatment are often necessary to achieve desired results
